Tuteo

Privacy policy

Last updated 25 October 2026

Tuteo helps language teachers send their lessons and words to their students, and helps students practise them. This page says what we keep about you, why, who helps us run Tuteo, and how to have it changed or deleted. Write to hello@tuteo.app with any question.

Who we are

Tuteo is run by Keanu Harrell, who decides how the data described here is used (the "controller"). Contact: hello@tuteo.app.

What we keep

If you teach

  • Your name and email address, and which way you sign in (Apple, Google or an emailed code). We never have a password.
  • Your teacher page: its address, your bio and the languages you teach.
  • What you write: lessons, notes, words, lists, classes and word banks.
  • Photos of your notes, when you import words from them. They are kept with that import until you delete it.
  • Video lessons held in Tuteo, and their recordings.

If you learn

  • Your name, and your email address if you or your teacher gave one. A teacher can add you by name without your email.
  • Your practice: each answer, how well you know each word, your streak.
  • Your settings: the app's language, the language words are translated into, your time zone and reminder time.
  • When your link was last opened, and the language of the browser that opened it, so emails reach you in it.
  • If you use the app and allow notifications, a token that lets us send them to your device.
  • Whether you asked to stop a teacher's emails.

Everyone

  • Cookies: one keeps you signed in, one remembers the language you picked. Your browser also remembers which students' links it opened, on that device only, to offer "Continue with…" on our home page.
  • Your IP address passes through our servers to limit abuse (for example, too many attempts at a sign-in code). We don't keep it.

We don't use advertising, tracking or analytics tools, and we don't sell or rent anything about anyone.

Why we use it

  • To provide Tuteo to you, as you asked: sending lessons, practice, progress, emails about your lessons.
  • Our legitimate interest in keeping Tuteo secure and working, and in reminding students to practise. Every email has a link to stop them, and reminders can be turned off.
  • Your consent for push notifications, which your device asks for and lets you withdraw.

Teachers and their students

A teacher decides which students to add, under which name, and whether to give their email. A teacher who adds someone's email should have their agreement, and a parent's for a child under 16. Students see their teacher's lessons and words; teachers see their own students' practice and progress, never another teacher's.

Who helps us run Tuteo

These companies handle data for us, only to provide their service:

  • Cloudflare: hosting, storage (photos, recordings), sending emails, video lessons, and reading words from photos of notes.
  • Neon: the database.
  • Apple and Google: signing in with them, and delivering notifications to your device.
  • Expo: passing notifications on to Apple and Google.

Some of them work outside the European Union. Where they do, they are bound by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or an equivalent safeguard.

How long we keep it

As long as your account, or your link with a teacher, exists. When a teacher removes a student or a student leaves, their shared words and progress are kept so that coming back restores them, until either of them asks us to delete them.

You can delete your account yourself, from Profile in the app or Settings in the studio: your account and everything about you are deleted at once. You can also ask us by email, and we do it within 30 days.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of what we keep about you, to correct it, to delete it, to receive it in a format you can take elsewhere, or to stop using it. Write to hello@tuteo.app; we answer within a month. You can also complain to the data protection authority where you live.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with its date. If a change matters to how your data is used, we tell you by email or in Tuteo first.
